LETTER FROM SCHOOL PRINCIPAL (01/05/2020)

Dear Parents/Guardians,
As many of you may already know the Board of Management of St Vincent's Primary has been petitioning the Department of Education to change the school's status from boys only school to a Co-Educational school. The Board believes that this very significant change is not only in the best educational interest of the children but also offers you the parents the convenience of having your boys and girls educated together. Normally this entire process can take anything from 2 to 5 years and so our hopes of starting off with girls next September seemed perhaps a little optimistic!
I am now delighted to share a piece of very good news with you that we have received very recently from the Department. Not only have they allowed us to go Co-Ed but they have speeded up the process for us and we can now start enrolling girls as well as boys in this year's Junior Infants class (Sept 2020)
We hope that you are as excited about this as we are. Educating boys and girls together brings out the best in both of them. My fondest memories as a teacher are of my days teaching mixed classes in Spain. The energy of the boys combined with the dedication of the girls made for excellent teaching and learning. Combine this with the lovely, happy working atmosphere and the excellent teaching staff in the school and I can safely say that exciting days are ahead in St Vincent’s Primary!
Meanwhile September must seem a very long way away for you all now in lockdown but someday, and I hope it's someday very soon, it will gradually end and the world will return to normal.  I hope that the boys are working away at Google classroom and learning lots.  They will all look so clever I hope that I will be able to recognise them when I see them in yard on our next school day!
Please remember that it is very easy to use Google Classroom and very, very worthwhile. If you do find it difficult to access the service please e-mail us and we will do our best to sort it out for you! I was delighted today to read an e- mail from a parent who had been having difficulties logging on and who was telling us how delighted their son was when we managed to solve it and he felt that he was part of his class again.  It is really a great resource.
Keep checking the website and face book page.  Keep sending photos to the Facebook page and e-mailing assignments to your teachers when possible but above all..........keep safe!

Yours sincerely,
Warick Sewell (Principal)
