Leinster Primary Schools Swimming gala – Nov 15, 2009

A group of 10 swimmers from St. Vincents entered the above swimming competition at the ALSAA Swimming pool at Dublin Airport.  New St. Vincents Swim tee-shirts were designed for the occasion in the school colours of Yellow and blue. The Gala started at 10.00am and went on until 5.00pm.

Two teams were entered in the relay events: –
Under 10 team: Christian , Kevin , Matthew , Tony  and Brian .
Under 12 team: Donal , Darren , Cillian , Eoin  and Brian .

The under 10 age group competition took place in the morning and there were two very exciting relay events: the medley relay where the four swimmers swim 50 metres in the four different strokes and the freestyle relay where they all swim freeestyle. St. Vincents got the silver medal in both events. There was a really close finish to the freestyle relay where they lost out on the Gold medal by 0.2 of a second!

In the individual events Matthew  won the gold medal in both Under 10 50 metres freestyle and 50 metres breaststroke events.

In the afternoon it was the turn of the under 12 team to compete. They entered in the freestyle relay and came up against 6 other teams. All four swimmers swam really well but were edged out of the medals. Well done to the boys.

Special thanks go to the Swimming Coach Deirdre Sharpe who prepared the boys very well and who was there on the day to cheer them on.

Also thanks to Peter Molumby for supporting the event.

Finally there was great support from all the parents and brothers and sisters of the swimmers. Thanks to all of you who cheered on the boys.

It was a very exciting and enjoyable day for all who attended and finally well done to all the swimmers - You did the school proud!
